Bronchoscopy of dog with bronchiectasis
Bronchietcasis is a disease where the airways in the lungs are dilated and often filled with mucous. These changes can cause a chronic cough and also predisposes these patients to pneumonia. Bronchiectasis is often not visible on radiographs (x-rays). Bronchoscopy allows for visualization of the airways, which is the only way to diagnose bronchiectasis, and allows the veterinarian to differentiate between bronchitis, bronchiectasis, or bronchomalacia.
